5 Year Plan... Should I Include My Man

With the year ending pretty quickly, I always like to reflect on my past goals over the years as well as start thinking of my future goals. With my dramatic obsession with planning out my life, I tend to include every aspect I can think of. This can range from what weight and size I would like to be all the way down to the amount of money I would like to have in my savings account. That may sound weird but I think the weirdest of it all may be that I also set goals for my relationship.  I have discussed with my boyfriend my plans for our relationship and although he could careless (he’s more of a Go-with-the-flow type of person) I can not help but share with him what it is I want out of our relationship, and when I say “our relationship” I mean what I want out of HIM. I told my coworkers about this timeline I have created and they think it is hysterical. Now I get it, you cannot plan everything, However, I cannot help but wonder, is it weird that I include my man in my 5 year plan?

I have always been one to like to have my ducks in a row. I grow annoyed when I feel I am not reaching my greatest potential. The constant desire to be ahead of the game has shaped my life in so many aspects. I cannot say it is bad, but cannot quite say it is all good either.

After doing some research I found a website/PDF that has mapped out examples for creating your own life plans. http://www.optimax.org/sample-reports/Long_Term_Plan.pdf They range from 1 year all the way up to 20 years. I really liked the fact they felt starting with your ultimate life goals, was the best starting point. Once you have that in place then you diminish it down to your 1-year goals. Ultimately your goals should line up to your ultimate lifestyle. I could only imagine how it feels to be the person that accomplished their life dreams.  I could imagine it goes a little something like this “Please Do not tell me nothing, I am pretty much like Oprah Honey!”  or “Excuse me Ms. Mayor, I will like my Key to the City Now!”. Yep, That pretty much sums it up in my head.

As a side note the example did include an estimated Marriage Date… Whew I am not the only crazy person in this world.

Whatever your goals are whether they are big or small, I suggest you write it down and review them every so often. Keep your mind on the prize and that prize is being the best “You” you can be. Accomplishing this will not only benefit you, but also your close friends and family.

Messy Desk... Major Office Faux Pas

Knock, Knock... One moment please; as I scramble to stack the cluster of important papers into one pile on my desk. My job is not a very difficult one but as a Catering Planning manager it does cause me to multitask quite a bit. I cannot help the sea of papers that encompasses my desk at any moment of time throughout my day. Typically this is not a big deal, however I can’t help but look at the other ladies offices that does the same job as I do. For some reason while my desk is full of contract addendum's, menus, notes from phone calls and bottles of water; their desk looks like its ready for an office commercial. A study from Adecco, a staffing firm, stated that 57% of co-workers admit that they judge their co-workers by how clean or dirty they keep their workspaces.(Forbes)

Now, I have the most trendy office accessories from my favorite office supply company Wild Branch, but I can rarely get a chance to show any of it off because my clutter is usually the first thing people see when they come in my office. I decided to do some research on ways to keep the clutter down and focus on one task at a time. With so many deadlines, this does not sound very appealing to me, however research shows when focusing on one tasks at a time the quality of work increases and stress levels decrease...AMEN TO THAT!

Some tips I found on the Forbes Post "The Dangers of A Messy Desk"
1.             Set a weekly appointment to clean.- Take 15 minutes to put everything in their respective places, take home items that belong at home(for me it would be my abundance of extra shoes), and throw away anything you have not used in a respective time period.
2.             Do not make piles and your desk is not a storage space-Piles are your enemy; this is not cleaning but rather saving the mess for later. Your desk is not to be used as storage. It should remain clear, as a clear workspace will make you more motivated to work.
